Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College head women's basketball coach Sylvia Crawley has received a two-year contract extension that will keep her in her current position through the 2014-15 season, according to an announcement made by Boston College Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo.
"We are very fortunate to have Sylvia Crawley leading our women's basketball program," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo said. "She is an outstanding recruiter and teacher and has done an outstanding job in her first two seasons. The future of our program is very bright, and this contract extension is very much deserved."
Crawley has a 40-27 record in her two seasons as the Eagles' head coach. In Crawley's short time at the helm, BC is 22-9 at Conte Forum, advanced to the WNIT Final Four in 2008-09, won the Blue Sky Tournament hosted by Dartmouth, the Caribbean Challenge in Cancun and the 2009-10 Hoops For A Cure hosted by Southern Methodist University.
This past season under Crawley, BC defeated eight teams with an RPI of 50 or lower, including No. 6 Duke, No. 8 FSU, No. 21 UNC, No. 24 Georgia Tech as well as Maryland, Fresno State, Iowa and NC State. The Eagles also advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament for the first time in program history with wins over Virginia Tech and No. 8 Florida State.
A 1994 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Crawley was a member of the 1993-94 UNC team which posted a 33-2 record and earned the National Championship in dramatic fashion on a buzzer-beater. Crawley was named to the East Region All-Tournament team and the All-ACC Tournament team that season.
