The Boston College volleyball team split two games on the final day of the 2010 Beanpot Classic, Saturday, August 28, bringing their record to 1-3 on the year. The Eagles defeated Quinnipiac in straight sets and fell to Northeastern, 1-3.
Junior Brennan Clark led BC with 39 kills and 39 digs, adding eight blocks to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
"Brennan did a great job for us this weekend," head coach Chris Campbell said. "She hasn't played outside hitter since her junior year of high school and she steps on the floor without missing a beat. She's a great athlete and a great competitor."
Boston College concluded the tournament with a win over Quinnipiac, 3-0.
"It was a good win," Campbell said. "One of our themes for the season is evaluating ourselves on how we are playing. We started out slow, but I was happy to see us level out as the match went out and finish strong."
The Eagles earned the straight-set victory with 26-24, 25-17, 25-20 wins in the match. The shutout was Boston College's first since defeating N.C. State at home on Nov. 13, 2009.
Junior Tsvetelina Dureva had 11 kills, 11 digs and two blocks against the Bobcats.
"Lina gets more comfortable every day," Campbell stated. "She's getting more familiar with the setters and we need her to channel her athleticism in the right direction on the court for us to continue to get better."
Senior libero Kristen Baader led the Eagles with 23 digs on the day.
"After playing outside [hitter] yesterday, Kristen [Baader] did a great job at libero today," Campbell said. "She's a senior, a captain and she showed us the leadership we need from her tonight."
Earlier in the day, Boston College lost to Northeastern, 1-3.
The Eagles won the first set against Northeastern, 25-21. Behind the defense of sophomore Krystle Higgins and senior Dani Moskitis, BC collected eight blocks and held off a late push by the Huskies.
Northeastern won the second set, 15-25, to even the match and took the lead with a win in the third, 13-25. In the fourth, the Eagles made a late rally, but surrendered the set, 21-25, for the third loss of the season.
"The first weekend is supposed to give us a feel for the areas of our game that have improved and others we need to continue to make gains on," Campbell said. "It's not until now that the real work starts, because we are playing someone other than ourselves."
The Eagles will return to action at Friday, Sept. 3, at 5:30 p.m. against the Univ. of New Hampshire at the Harvard Tournament in Cambridge, Mass.
