Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College sailors Daniel Bloomstine and Briana Provancha were named the New England Sailors of the Week as announced today by US Sailing.
Bloomstine and Provancha stepped in as the wind picked up and gave the Eagles the advantage needed to win both divisions and secure a 35 point margin of victory over second place College of Charleston at the regionals this past weekend at the ICSA Eastern semifinals in Charleston, South Carolina.
Bloomstine, a junior from Erie, PA, sailed nine races in A division with junior skipper Tyler Sinks, including six finishes in the top three. In B division, Provancha, a junior from San Diego, CA, stepped in with junior Taylor Canfield for 11 races and posted top three finishes in an impressive nine of 11 races. They finished with the regatta low-point of 50 points in B division and a 15 race average of 3.3. Boston College won both A and B divisions.
It is the third time this season in which Boston College earned the New England Sailors of the Week Awards. On April 21, Tyler Sinks and Laura McKenna picked up the honor of sailor of the week. The week of April 7, Emily Maxwell, Elizabeth Dudley and Katy Nastro earned the honor.
The No. 1 Eagles will travel to Rhode Island this weekend to compete in the NEISA Team Race Championship, hosted by Salve Regina.
