New London, CT - The Boston College Coed Sailing Team won the 2010 New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association Coed Conference Championship this past weekend at Connecticut College. The victory qualifies the Eagles for the first round of the ICSA Coed National Championship. It also marks the fourth consecutive Coed Conference Championship for the Sailing Team.
The Eagles led the championship from start to finish, opening up a thirteen point lead on Yale at the end of the first day of racing. Early on Sunday, Yale closed to within three points before the Eagles began to pull away in the afternoon.
Consistency in both divisions in challenging conditions was the key to the Eagles' success - over the course of 34 races, BC scored outside the top eight only four times. With a race to go in each division, the Eagles had mathematically won the Championship, allowing A Division sailors - Tyler Sinks and Laura McKenna - and B Division sailors - Annie Haeger and Sandy Williams - to concentrate on winning individual honors.
The Eagles finished the event first overall by forty points, and won A and B divisions.
