Baseball Loses Opener at No. 10 Clemson, 15-2

CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson's Casey Harman threw 6.0 innings and allowed one run and the Tigers supported him at the plate by scoring in seven different innings to beat the Boston College baseball team, 15-2, Friday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Harman allowed a solo home run in the first inning and shut down the Eagles from there. He allowed four hits and struck out 10 while walking three to improve to 5-0. Tomas Cruz got the save with his 3.0 innings of relief work.
Mike Freeman led Clemson (19-7, 8-2 ACC) at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, four RBI and three runs. Wilson Boyd and Addison Johnson both had two RBI with a double and a triple, respectively. Jeff Schaus, Brad Miller and John Hinson each had two hits as 10 different players drove in runs. Miller also hit a home run.
Junior Mickey Wiswall was responsible for both of Boston College's (11-14, 3-7) runs in the game. He provided the solo home run in the first and scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. It was his sixth long ball of the year. Senior John Spatola went 2-for-4.
Wiswall's solo shot came in the top of the first with two outs. He forced a full count and then sent a towering drive well over the wall in right.
The Tigers got that run back in the bottom half of the inning when Kyle Parker hit a sac fly to right field.
Clemson pulled away in the second inning with six runs. The Tigers hit four doubles in the inning and also benefited from four walks.
The Tigers added a run in both the third and fourth innings on a double from Freeman and a sac fly from Hinson, respectively.
Freeman then hit a two-run homer to right-center in the fifth and Miller added a solo shot in the sixth to extend the lead to 12-1.
The Eagles got their other run in the top of the eighth. Wiswall led off with a walk and Spatola singled through the right side to put the first two runners on base. After a 6-4-3 double play, Wiswall scored on a wild pitch.
Clemson added three more runs in the eighth.
The second game of the series is set for Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
