Pike's Peak Club Hosts 61st Annual Hockey Awards Banquet

Sophomore forward Cam Atkinson earned the Norman F. Dailey award as Boston College's Most Valuable Player and each member of the 2010 senior class - Matt Price, Matt Lombardi, Ben Smith and Carl Sneep - earned individual accolades to headline the honorees at the 61st annual Pike's Peak Club awards banquet that celebrated the Eagles' 2009-10 national championship season on Sunday in Lyons Hall.
Atkinson led the nation with 30 goals in 2009-10. The Greenwich, Conn., product tallied a team-high 53 points - 30 goals and 23 assists - in 42 games. He earned All-Tournament Team accolades at both the NCAA Frozen Four in Detroit, Mich., and the NCAA Northeast Regional in Worcester, Mass. The 5-foot-8, 175-pound forward captured Most Outstanding Player honors at the Worcester Regional.
Atkinson earned All-Conference second-team honors after recording 34 points - 18 goals and 16 assists - in 27 conference contests.
Price and Lombardi shared the John "Snooks" Kelley Memorial Award as the individuals who best typify Boston College hockey.
Kelley served as team manager for three years before becoming a "playing manager" in his senior year in 1928. He assumed coaching duties at his alma mater in 1932 and led the program right up until his retirement after the 1971-72 season. Kelley became the first coach in college hockey history to surpass the 500-victory plateau. He finished his career with a 501-243-15 mark.
Price served as the program's 87th team captain. He recorded 16 points - five goals and 11 assists - in 41 games. The Milton, Ontario product totaled 46 points - 18 goals and 28 assists - in 141 career contests.
Lombardi served as one of two alternate captains this winter. He registered 14 points - seven goals and seven assists - in 42 games. He recorded six points - four goals and two assists - in four Hockey East Tournament contests, including his memorable four-point performance against Maine in the championship game, a performance that earned him the conference tournament's Most Valuable Player award.
The Milton, Mass., product concluded his collegiate career with 33 points - 11 goals and 22 assists - in 145 games.
Smith was honored with the William J. Flynn Coaches Award, decided upon by head coach Jerry York and his staff. Flynn, class of 1939, was a former BC student-athlete, faculty member, coach and served as Director of Athletics from 1957-90.
Smith totaled 37 points - 16 goals and 21 assists - in 42 games. He captured NCAA Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player honors after he tallied four points - three goals and one assists - in victories over Miami (4/8) and Wisconsin (4/10) in Detroit, Mich.
The Avon, Conn., product played in all 165 games during his four years, finishing in sole possession of fifth place on the school's games played list. He registered 122 career points - 57 goals and 65 assists.
Sneep earned the team's Most Improved Player award that is named for James E. Tiernan, the 1956 Beanpot MVP. Sneep, a 6-foot-3, 212-pound defenseman, registered a career-high 28 points - 11 goals and 17 assists - in 42 games. He earned All-Tournament Team honors at both the Hockey East Tournament and the NCAA Northeast Regional in Worcester, Mass.
Sneep also captured All-Conference Honorable Mention honors after tallying 15 points - five goals and 10 assists - in 27 Hockey East contests. The Nisswa, Minn., native concluded his four-year career with 64 points - 17 goals and 47 assists - in 157 games.
Brian Dumoulin earned the Bernie Burke Outstanding Freshman Award, named in honor of the former BC goalie and long-time freshman coach. Dumoulin, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound defenseman, registered 22 points - one goal and 21 assists - in 42 games. He finished the season with a plus-minus rating of +40. The Biddeford, Maine, product captured NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team honors after he notched three assists against Miami in the national semifinal-round game.
Dumoulin also captured All-Conference Rookie Team honors after he recorded 12 points - one goal and 11 assists - and a league-best +24 rating in 27 Hockey East contests.
Price and Smith also captured the Academic Excellence Award as the seniors with the highest grade point average.
Boston College finished the 2009-10 season with a 29-10-3 record. The Eagles captured the Beanpot title, the Hockey East Tournament title, advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Frozen Four for the ninth time in 13 seasons and captured the program's fourth national championship.
Pike's Peak is the program's booster organization that also recognized the 25th anniversary team of 1985-86, represented by captain Tim Mitchell, and the 50th anniversary team of 1959-60, represented by David Pergola and Ron Walsh, at Sunday's dinner.
Fr. Jack Harrington '79 delivered the invocation and Fr. Todd Kenny `95 delivered the benediction.
Pike's Peak Club President Barry Hynes '85 opened and closed the program and Tom Grace '86 served as the Master of Ceremony.
Presenting the awards were distinguished former players: Mark Riley '75, Lee Blossom '83, and Matt Greene '08,
Patrick Kelley McLaughlin, the grandson of the Eagle coaching legend Snooks Kelley, presented the Snooks Kelley Memorial Award.
