The Boston College lacrosse team will host its second annual, Friends of Jaclyn game this Saturday, March 27 at 12:00 p.m. against ACC opponent, North Carolina.
The Friends of Jaclyn (FOJ) Foundation was started by Jaclyn Murphy's family after Jaclyn was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in March 2004 at the age of 11. It is a charitable organization created to raise public awareness about pediatric brain tumors.
The Foundation also helps children connect with athletic teams, as Jaclyn was adopted by the Northwestern women's lacrosse team.
The Eagles will open Saturday's game with a ceremony to honor their adopted teammate and friend, Judith Theriault.
Boston College joined other collegiate teams around the country by becoming involved in the program and taking Judith under its wing in March of 2008. During her time with the Eagles, she has become an integral part of the team, attending games, post-game tailgates, team dinners and participating in other activities. This past spring break was particularly special, as Judith joined the team on its trip to Florida and spent five great days with the Eagles.
Senior Tri-Captain Lauren Costello reflects on what Judith means to her and the team. "Judith has been an inspiration to our team from the moment we met" Costello said. "Her infectious smile and loving personality remind us of the important things in life. She embodies the notion of perseverance and courage. There is no question she has made each of our lives richer and more meaningful."
The Tar Heels are also involved in the foundation, having adopted Winter Gilland in August of 2008.
To support the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and other brave children like Judith and Winter, the Eagles will be accepting donations at the game.
