
Gibbons, Atkinson Earn All-Hockey East Honors

Boston College forward Brian Gibbons has earned Hockey East first-team honors, Cam Atkinson has earned All-Conference second-team accolades and senior defenseman Carl Sneep has captured honorable mention recognition, according to a league announcement on Thursday.
Gibbons, a 5-foot-8, 165-pound forward, recorded 34 points - 11 goals and 23 assists - in 27 league games. He tallied three power-play goals, two game-winning goals and a +17 rating.
The Braintree, Mass., product recorded a hat trick, including his 100th career point, in BC's 7-1 home win over Northeastern on Feb. 21. He has registered a career-high 42 points - 15 goals and 27 assists - in 36 games this winter.
Gibbons has recorded 105 points - 37 goals and 69 assists - in 115 career games and is one of three active BC players with 100 points. Senior Ben Smith has 114 points in 157 games and junior Joe Whitney has 100 points in 116 games.
Atkinson, a 5-foot-8, 175-pound forward, also totaled 34 points in 27 conference contests. He tallied 18 goals, including six power-play goals, two shorthanded goals and two game-winning goals. He finished with 16 assists and a +18 rating.
The Greenwich, Conn., product has recorded two hat tricks in the last six games, which included a career-high four-point performance - three goals and one assist - in a 6-5 home win over Massachusetts on March 12 in game one of the league quarterfinals. Atkinson has registered a team-high 45 points - 24 goals and 21 assists - in 36 games this winter.
He has 64 points - 31 goals and 33 assists - in 72 career games.
Sneep, a 6-foot-3, 212-pound defenseman, is the team's top scoring defenseman. He has registered 24 points - nine goals and 15 assists - in 36 games, including 15 points - five goals and 10 assists - in 27 Hockey East contests. The Nisswa, Minn., native has scored five power-play goals, one game-winning goal and one shorthanded goal.
Sneep has recorded 60 career points - 15 goals and 45 assists - in 151 games.
Gibbons, Atkinson and Sneep represent three of Boston College's six Hockey East award winners. Two freshmen - defenseman Brian Dumoulin and forward Chris Kreider - earned All-Conference Rookie Team honors while senior assistant captain Ben Smith captured the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award.
In other notable league news, Boston College alumnus Mark Dennehy '91, who is in his fifth season as head coach of the Merrimack Warriors, earned Hockey East Co-Coach of the Year honors. Dennehy helped lead the Eagles to three Hockey East regular-season titles from 1987-91.
