Carolyn Swords Named First Team All-ACC

Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College center Carolyn Swords was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-ACC women's basketball first-team as announced today by the conference. Swords' is the first player in the program since BC joined the ACC in 2005-06 to earn first-team honors. Junior Stefanie Murphy was also recognized as she earned All-ACC honorable mention honors.
A junior, Swords is averaging 14.4 points and 9.3 rebounds a game. She leads the ACC and country in field goal percentage (66.0%). Swords' has notched 11 double-doubles this season and has 29 in her career. She became the 20th player to score over 1,000 points as she reached the plateau in the first game of the season. Swords' is currently eighth on the all-time scoring list at BC with 1407 points. She is third on the all-time rebound list with 826 boards.
Swords', a native of Sudbury, Mass., was the second player from the program to earn All-ACC second-team honors last season. Brooke Queenan earned second-team accolades in 2005-06. In 2006-07, Kathrin Ress was named to the third-team. Last year, Mickel Picco was named All-ACC honorable mention.
Murphy, a native of Londonderry, N.H., is averaging 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds this season. She is averaging 13.2 points and 6.9 boards in ACC play. Murphy has notched double-figures in nine ACC games, including the last five. She is shooting 47.9 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line. Murphy is now 13th on the all-time scoring list with 1176 points. She is also fifth in rebounding with 660 career boards.
Boston College is currently 15-14 overall and 6-8 in the ACC. The Eagles are the No.7 seed in the ACC Tournament and will play No. 10 Virginia Tech on Thursday, March 4 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
