CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's tennis team picked up a key non-conference victory over Memphis by the score of 5-2 at the Flynn Recreation Complex on Friday evening.
The win improves the Eagles to 2-3 for the season, while the loss drops Memphis to 3-5 overall.
Boston College took the first point of the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. The freshman duo of Olga Khmylev and Alex Kelleher won their doubles match at the number one spot over Ashley Murdock and Marjorie Ondeck 8-3.
The Eagles got their other doubles victory from junior Katharine Attwell and senior Brittany Delaney as they defeated Andrea Arques-Garcia and Amanda Brown at the number two position by the score of 8-0. The team of Attwell and Delaney are now 4-0 on the season at the number two doubles spot.
Attwell put her winning streak on the line in singles play by moving up from her normal number four spot to the number three singles position. Even that couldn't stop the junior from winning her eighth consecutive match in a row as she defeated Ondeck in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Attwell's winning streak stretches all the way back to the January 30th match against Dartmouth.
Boston College also picked up a key singles victory from Kelleher who beat Courtney Collins 6-3, 6-1 at the number two position.
The Eagles will play their third match in three days tomorrow as they will travel to cross-town rival Harvard. The match starts at 12 p.m.
