Chris Campbell, who spent the past two years as assistant/associate head coach at Auburn University, has been named the Boston College head volleyball coach, according to an announcement by Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo.
"Chris Campbell has an outstanding reputation as a player, coach and recruiter," DeFilippo said. "We are pleased to welcome him to the BC Athletics family."
Campbell spent the 2008 season as an assistant coach with Auburn prior to being promoted to associate head coach in 2009.
"I'm very excited. Boston College is a fantastic university in a fantastic conference in a fantastic city," Campbell said. "That is a combination that is very exciting and one that can help the volleyball program become successful on all fronts."
During his tenure with the Tigers, he helped guide the team to a fifth-place finish in the SEC in 2009 while serving as recruiting coordinator and position coach for the middle blockers.
Before assuming his duties at Auburn, Campbell coached for six seasons at Northern Arizona University where he spent the 2003 season as an assistant coach before serving as head coach from 2004-08. In 2007, he led NAU to a spot in the Big Sky tournament, the school's first appearance since 2004.
Prior to working with the Lumberjacks, Campbell spent one season as the head coach at Division II Mississippi University for Women as well as three years at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. His work with the Ragin' Cajuns helped the team earn two second-place finishes in the Sun Belt Conference West Division while also leading the team to a No. 9 ranking in the NCAA South Division in 2001.
A native of New Brunswick, Canada, Campbell earned a bachelor's degree in physics from McGill University in 1996 as well as a bachelor's degree in secondary education from the University of British Columbia in 2002.
