Women's Basketball Loses To Miami In Overtime, 76-68

Coral Gables, FLA - The Boston College women's basketball team fell to Miami, 76-68, in overtime on Sunday afternoon in the final regular season game in the ACC. The Eagles finish with a 15-14 record and 6-8 ACC record. Miami is now 17-12 overall and 4-10 in the ACC.
Boston College was led by Carolyn Swords with 21 points and Stefanie Murphy with 19 points. Miami was led by Riquna Williams with 27 points, while Shenise Johnson added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
BC's second half comeback came behind Murphy and Swords inside. At one point, Murphy scored eight consecutive points and gave BC its first lead of the game at 10:21, 46-45. The Eagles held a 62-54 lead with 2:29 to play on a layup by Swords.
Miami's Shenise Johnson went to work. She scored eight points in the final two minutes to cut the Eagles lead to two points. Miami's pressure defense created three turnovers - a steal by Johnson, a bad pass by BC and a travel call with 19 seconds to play.
Johnson had a chance to tie the game but her rebound off a wild shot went out of bounds off the Eagles. The Hurricanes ran an alley-oop play with three seconds to play. The pass was deflected away by BC and the ball fell into the hands Morgan Stroman who hit the game-tying shot at the buzzer.
Miami proceeded to out-score BC in overtime, 12-4 as Johnson and Williams continued to drive to the hoop. BC's only points in the overtime came off two foul shots from Picco and a layup by Swords.
Miami held a 33-25 halftime lead over Boston College behind 13 points from Riguna Williams. BC shot 42 percent from the floor but turned the ball over 16 times. Miami opened the half with an 8-2 run. The Eagles cut the lead to two points on foul shots by Ayla Brown (nine points, four boards) with 5:53 to play in the half. Williams then hit two consecutive three-point shots and two foul shots giving Miami a comfortable lead.
Boston College won the battle of the boards 38-33 but turned the ball over 27 times for the second time in the last four games.
Game Notes:
BC is the seventh seed in the ACC Tournament which will start on Thursday, March 4 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Eagles will play No. 10 seed Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. - The winner of the BC/VTech game will play Florida State on Friday, March 5 at 6 p.m.
