The Boston College women's basketball team is now 15-13 overall and 6-7 in the ACC. The Eagles are coming off an 83-70 victory over Maryland at Conte Forum. It was the first time BC defeated the Terps in 11 games. BC ended a three-game losing streak with the win. Boston College was led by junior Jaclyn Thoman with a career-high 18 points, while Carolyn Swords notched her 11th double-double of the season (15 points, 10 rebounds). Senior Brittanny Johnson added 16 points and five boards while Mickel Picco notched 17 points. BC hit 50 percent from the three-point line in the game, while shooting 94 percent from the free throw line. The Eagles also won the battle of the boards, 40-36.

The Hurricanes lead the head-to-head series against Boston College, 17-16. Since joining the ACC, BC leads the series, 8-2. BC has won the last seven games, including the first round game of the ACC Tournament in 2009.

The Boston College women's basketball team used a balanced attack at the Eagles defeated Miami, 72-64. Senior Brittanny Johnson led the Eagles with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists, whole Carolyn Swords notched 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Mickel Picco added 12 points, six rebounds and had six assists, while junior Stefanie Murphy added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Boston College used a 16-4 run in the final six minutes of the first half, sparked by two three-pointers apiece from Johnson and freshman Kerri Shields (3-for-4 from the field, nine points). After two foul shots by Miami's Diane Barnes, BC led at the half, 33-26.
The Eagles extended the lead to 15 points early in the second half on six straight points behind layups by Murphy, Jaclyn Thoman (four points, six assists) and Swords. Miami had an uphill battle the rest of the half. Miami made a run with eight minutes to play and Swords on the bench with three fouls. The Hurricanes cut the BC lead to five points but Picco's only three-pointer of the game at 6:53 extended the lead to eight points.
Miami chose to foul in the final two minute of play. The Eagles proceeded to hit 10-of-11 from the line, including Johnson going 4-for-4, to seal the win.
Stepping Up
Senior Brittanny Johnson has been playing some of her best basketball this season. A native of Chicago, IL, Johnson has picked up her play during ACC action. She is averaging 10.4 points and 2.7 rebounds against ACC teams. She is shooting 40 percent from the field and 79.2 percent from the free throw line. For the season, Johnson is averaging 7.7 points a game. One of BC's top defenders, Johnson has taken 11 charges and has 26 steals this season. Johnson notched 16 points and took a charge in the final two minutes in the win over Maryland on Feb. 25.
Murphy's Law
The ACC competition has inspired Stefanie Murphy. The junior forward is averaging 12.8
points and 7.0 rebounds a game against ACC opponents. She is shooting 43.8 percent from the floor and a sizzling 80 percent from the free throw line. In the month of February, Murphy is averaging 29.8 minutes per game, 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds a game. She is shooting 45 percent from the floor and 88.0 percent from the free throw line. Murphy is 12th on the all-time scoring list (1157) and fifth in rebounds (654).
