ATLANTA - Junior Joe Trapani registered 26 points and six rebounds - both game highs - to lead Boston College in a 73-68 ACC loss to Georgia Tech before 8,055 fans in Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Sophomore Reggie Jackson totaled 13 points and 10 assists, while junior Corey Raji contributed 12 points.
The Yellow Jackets scored the game's first seven points and never allowed the Eagles to even the score. Georgia Tech extended its margin to 14 points twice - 28-14 and 30-16 - before BC rallied and used a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to close within three points - 33-30 - with 2:25 left in the half. Five Eagles scored in this stretch, led by four points from Jackson and three-point field goals by Trapani and Tyler Roche.
Georgia Tech finished the half with a 4-0 run to take a 37-30 lead at the break.
The Yellow Jackets carried that momentum into the second half, scoring the first six points to claim a 13-point cushion. Georgia Tech led by 15 points - 54-39 - with 11:26 to play, before the Eagles made another run. BC outscored the home team, 14-7, over the next five minutes to narrow the difference to eight points - 61-53 - with 6:27 to play. Trapani hit two treys in this stretch.
BC did not get any closer until the final seconds of the contest.
Game Notes: Jackson's 10-assist effort comes one game after the sophomore tallied 11 assists against Virginia Tech (2-24-10). He is the first BC player to record double-digit assist totals in consecutive games since Duane Woodward did so against Rutgers (12 assists in a triple-double effort) and Marquette (11 assists) on Jan. 14 and Jan. 17, 1998 ... Trapani also led the Eagles with three steals ... BC outrebounded the much-bigger Yellow Jackets, 29-27 ... BC committed three more turnovers than Georgia Tech, but had a 28-26 advantage in "points off turnovers" ... BC was credited with 19 assists on 25 field goals.
