The Boston College women's hockey team topped Maine, 3-2 on Friday evening at the Alfond Sports Arena in Orono, Maine.
The Eagles are now 6-15-10 on the season while the Black Bears drop to 6-17-5.
Boston College opened the scoring at 10:52 of the first when senior Allie Thunstrom moved into a tie for fourth place on BC's all-time scoring list by notching the 134th point of her career. Freshmen Ashley Motherwell and Kristina Brown tallied assists on Thunstrom's score with Motherwell adding to her team lead in assists in the process.
Maine responded by scoring a power-play goal nearly two minutes into the second period but that would be all the action.
The Eagles gained a quick advantage in the third period on an unassisted goal by sophomore Danielle Welch at 1:08 of the frame and added an insurance tally at 7:19 with a goal by Kristina Brown. Once again, Thunstrom was in on the action and her assist on Brown's goal gave her the 135th point of her career. She is now in sole possession of fourth place on BC's all-time scoring list.
That would be all the scoring there would be and the Eagles would take the game, 3-1.
Freshman goalie Corinne Boyles recorded 22 saves on the evening as the Eagles outshot the Black Bears 26-24.
The Eagles will remain in Maine to match-up with the Black Bears once again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
