
Men's Basketball Loses at Rhode Island, 67-65

KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior Joe Trapani scored a game-high 18 points and junior Reggie Jackson tallied 15 points to lead Boston College in a 67-65 loss to Rhode Island before 6,395 fans in the Thomas M. Ryan Center.
The loss snapped the Eagles' seven-game winning streak.
BC had a chance to win/tie the contest on the final possession. After three timeouts were called with 1.4 seconds remaining, Jackson took the inbounds pass and launched a three-point attempt that struck the rim and bounced off.
The Eagles trailed by nine points at halftime, before beginning the second half with an 11-0 run to claim a 41-39 lead with 16:27 to play. Jackson scored six points and Trapani five points in this early rally.
The two teams battled back and forth for the next 10 minutes with neither team gaining more than a six-point cushion until the host Rams sank two free throws with 5:50 remaining to gain a 61-54 advantage.
Trapani answered with two treys in a 6-2 BC run to bring the visitors back to within three points at 63-60 with 4:40 left.
Senior Corey Raji followed a URI dunk with two free throws with 2:06 to play, and then responded to another Ram dunk with a three-pointer with 1:01 remaining to trim the deficit to two points at 67-65.
BC held URI scoreless on its next possession and, after a Raji defensive rebound, gained possession with 27 seconds to play. Trapani recovered a loose ball at the offensive end with 1.4 seconds to play and called timeout, setting the stage for Jackson's final attempt.
Game Notes: BC committed 18 turnovers, its second-highest total of the season. Yet, despite committing 10 more turnovers than the home team, each team finished with 12 points off turnovers ... BC played the final 31 minutes without senior Biko Paris, who sustained a lower-body injury ... BC gained a 32-23 rebounding advantage ... BC made 12 treys, marking the eighth time this season and the fifth consecutive time that the Eagles have made 10 or more treys in a game ... BC trailed by as many as 15 points - 33-18 - in the first half, before closing the half with a 12-6 run (keyed by two treys from freshman Danny Rubin) to trim its deficit to nine points at the break.
