Eagles Suffer First Loss of Season, 68-55 at Michigan

Sunday, December 22, 2010 (Ann Arbor, Michigan) - The Boston College women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season as the Eagles fell to Michigan, 68-55, in Crisler Arena on Wednesday night. The Eagles are now 11-1, while Michigan improved to 7-5.
Boston College will next host Northeastern after the Christmas break on Thursday, Dec. 30 at Conte Forum.
BC was led by senior Carolyn Swords with 16 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Kerri Shields added 15 points. Stefanie Murphy finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Eagles could not overcome the hot shooting down the stretch from Carmen Reynolds. She hit three three-pointers in the final four minutes to give Michigan the win. Arnold finished with 18 points, while Rachel Scheffer added 19 points. With 4:05 to play Jaclyn Thoman cut the Michigan lead to one point on a three-pointer at the top of the key. After a media time out, Reynolds hit her second three-pointer to give Michigan a 56-52 lead. After Murphy hit a foul shot, Reynolds came back with her third three-pointer to give the Wolverines a 59-53 lead. From there Michigan hit nine foul shots to seal the win. In the first half Boston College started out with a 13-6 run but the lead did not last long. The two teams traded baskets until Michigan went on a run to close the game, 28-29, with 4:28 to play on a layup by Rachel Scheffer. The Wolverines took a 33-31 lead at the half on a three-pointer by Sam Arnold at the buzzer. Michigan scored 18 points off BC's 22 turnovers. The Eagles shot 42 percent from the floor and 25 percent from the three-point line. Michigan shot 43 percent and 33 percent from the three-point line. Michigan had the advantage on the foul line as they hit 13-of-17, while BC went to the line just four times. #
