The No. 24/24 Boston College women's basketball team will travel to Michigan to play the Wolverines on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. The game can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.
The Eagles earned a No. 24 ranking on Tuesday afternoon by the AP, while they remained at 24 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.
BC is coming off an 85-55 victory over non-conference foe UNC-Wilmington on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum. The Eagles were led by Carolyn Swords led BC with 23 points and six assists while going 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Sophomore Kerri Shields finished with 18, while senior Stefanie Murphy added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Kristen Doherty had a solid all-around game with 12 points, six boards, five assists and six steals. Freshman Katie Zenevitch finished with eight points and a career-high 11 rebounds along with four assists.
BC VS. MICHIGAN
BC and Michigan have played twice. The Wolverines lead the series, 2-0. The first meeting took place on Dec. 1, 1991. Michigan won 67-54. Last season at Conte Forum, Michigan defeated BC, 76-70.
This is the second Big Ten team BC has played this season. The Eagles defeated Penn State, 113-104, in overtime on December 2 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. Boston College has a 10-19 all-time record against Big Ten teams.
LEADING LADIES
The BC team leads the nation in scoring this week (90.5 ppg). The Eagles have five players scoring in double-figures. The Eagles offense is also averaging 21.0 assists per game. BC has handed out over 20 assists in six consecutive games.
GAME NOTES
• Freshman Kristen Doherty tied her career-high with six steals against UNC-Wilmington on Dec. 19. She leads the team and is third in the ACC in steals (36) this season.
• BC is shooting 87 percent from the free throw line in the last three games. The Eagles are 41-for-47, while Carolyn Swords and Shayra Brown were perfect in the last game. Swords went 5-for-5 and Brown shot 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
• Freshman Katie Zenevitch grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds in the win over UNC-Wilmington on Dec. 19.
• BC is shooting 87 percent from the free throw line in the last three games. The Eagles are 41-for-47, while Carolyn Swords and Shayra Brown were perfect in the last game. Swords went 5-for-5 and Brown shot 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
• The Eagles are shooting 44.8 percent from the three-point line in the last three games. Sophomore Kerri Shield is shooting 65 percent from the arc while Jaclyn Thoman and Stefanie Murphy are at 50 percent.
• Boston College is currently 11-0 on the season. It is the best start in program history.
• Senior Carolyn Swords continues to lead the country in field goal percentage (75.9%), while senior Stefanie Murphy is 23rd (58.7%).
• Carolyn Swords and Stefanie Murphy have combined for 11 double-doubles this season. Swords' has five, while Murphy has six. Jaclyn Thoman and Kerri Shields have also recorded a double-double this season.
