CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team will face several challenging non-conference matchups in addition to five ACC contests during its spring 2011 season, competing against seven teams ranked in the top-20 during 2010 and last year's National Champion Maryland.
The Eagles will open on the road at Hofstra on February 16 after competing against the annual top-20 team for the first time during the fall. Hofstra will mark the beginning of a string of non-conference games, including Duquesne, Villanova, Yale, Holy Cross, and Connecticut. The Duquesne game will take place at the United States Training Center in Downingtown, PA while the match-ups against Holy Cross and Connecticut will take place at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL.
BC's first ACC conference game will be against Virginia Tech on March 12. Last year the Eagles defeated the Hokies 14-9 to start the season 5-0 for the first time in program history.
After that BC will be tested with a tough mid-season stretch featuring games against Harvard, National Champion Maryland, ACC opponent North Carolina, another top-20 team Albany, and two more ACC contests against powerhouses Virginia and Duke.
The Eagles will host BU on April 13 in a crosstown rivalry matchup after defeating the Terriers on the road last year. Then the Eagles will head to Vermont before the ACC tournament in Cary, N.C. BC will close its regular season at New Hampshire on April 29.
"I'm looking forward to the 2011 game schedule and feel it provides our team with the right balance of conference and non-conference opponents," Head Coach Bowen Holden said. "Our strength of schedule increased after last year's success, and there is no doubt our 2011 team is ready and eager to take each game one step at a time."
