CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team has received National Letters of Intent from five high school seniors, as announced by Head Coach Katie King on Monday, November 22.
Welcomed to the team will be Alexandra Carpenter and Emily Field of Massachusetts, Kate Leary of New Hampshire, Megan Miller of Illinois, and Emily Pfalzer of New York.
Carpenter, a native of North Reading, Mass. has won three consecutive New England Division II Championships at Governor's Academy, earning back-to-back tournament MVP Awards. She has also won Team MVP honors for the past two seasons. She and Leary play on the same line as forwards. Outside of school, Carpenter is a member of the USA U-18 National Team and was a part of the 2009-10 squad that won the silver medal in the World Championships. Her father Bobby Carpenter is an 18-year NHL veteran who was the first U.S. high school player in history to sign directly with a professional hockey team. The U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer won three Stanley Cup rings and was once named "The Can't Miss Kid" by Sports Illustrated.
Field, a senior forward at Lawrence Academy from Littleton, Mass. helped her team reach the finals of the NEPSAC Championships during the past two seasons and has earned an Honorable Mention from the ISL. She also played field hockey at Lawrence Academy, earning an ISL Honorable Mention for the Spartan's undefeated 2008 season and ISL All-League and Team MVP Awards in 2009. An all-around athlete, Field plays lacrosse and golf as well. She is also a current member of the USA U-18 team. The honors student was elected to share the role of student body president last spring.
Leary, a native of Seabrook, N.H. and teammate of Carpenter's at Governor's Academy where she is a forward, was also an integral part of the squads that have won three consecutive New England Division II Championships. She has also won two USA Hockey National Championships (U-12 and U-14 titles) with the Assabet Valley Club Team. At Governor's, Leary is a member of the lacrosse and field hockey teams as well, and is an All-League player and one of the leading scorers on the field hockey squad.
Miller hails from Long Grove, Ill. and is a senior goaltender at the North American Hockey Academy. Prior to enrolling at NAHA, Miller played on the boys' Chicago Mission team growing up. She has been chosen for the USA Hockey National Development Camp in Minnesota since 2008. Outside of school, she too plays for the current USA U-18 team.
Pfalzer, the only defenseman in the group, is a senior at the Nichols School and grew up in Getzville, N.Y. She was a standout player on the Nichols' girls' varsity hockey team during her freshman and sophomore years, scoring 42 goals and 53 assists for a total of 95 points. She now competes with the Mississauga Chiefs on the Provincial Women's Hockey League. She has been chosen to attend the USA Player Development Camp in Minnesota since 2007; in 2008 and 2009, she was selected to the USA All-Star team from the camp. Like her fellow Class of 2015 recruits, she currently plays for the USA U-18 team and won the World Championships silver medal with the 2009-10 squad.
