CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Corey Raji came off the bench to register 15 points and seven rebounds, while freshman Danny Rubin recorded 14 points and six rebounds in his first collegiate start to lead Boston College to a 69-54 win over Holy Cross before 3,672 fans in Conte Forum.
The game between the two Jesuits schools was one of more than 90 games that will be played this season as part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight (JBS).
Seniors Joe Trapani and Biko Paris each tallied 11 points, while junior Reggie Jackson finished with nine points and 10 assists.
The Eagles led 55-47 with 5:55 to play, before securing the victory with a 12-0 run in which they held the visiting Crusaders scoreless for more than three minutes. Rubin and Raji each tallied five points to key the rally.
BC led 31-26 at halftime. Holy Cross used a 7-3 run to open the second half and trim the margin to one point - 34-33. After each team added another field goal, BC used four three-pointers, one old-fashioned three-point play and one lay-in in a 17-3 rally that give the Eagles a 53-38 cushion with 9:16 to play. Rubin hit two treys, Trapani sank one, while Raji converted one and the traditional three-point play in this stretch. Paris capped the rally with a lay-in.
Holy Cross fought back to within eight points - 55-47 - before BC's final run put the game out of reach.
The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight (JBS) was developed by the Association of Jesuit College and Universities (AJCU) in response to member institutions wanting to spread the word of Jesuit higher education through the many games in which Jesuit institutions played one another.
