Carolyn Swords Named ACC Player of the Week

Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College's Carolyn Swords was named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week, as announced today by the conference office. Swords led the Eagles to a 4-0 record en route to the TD Bank Classic Tournament MVP honors, hosted by the University of Vermont this past weekend.
Swords averaged 19.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and shot 68.5 percent from the floor in two victories at the TD Bank Classic hosted by Vermont last weekend.
The Sudbury native had 26 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Dartmouth. She shot 12-for-19, grabbed 12 boards and had four assists and two blocks in the 87-61 victory. Against Vermont, Swords only played 19 minutes, shot 5-for-6 from the floor, and grabbed 11 rebounds in an 85-50 win over the Catamounts.
For her efforts, which included two double-doubles, she was named the Tournament MVP. The two double-double performances gave her four consecutive double-doubles to start the 2010-11 season. She now has 34 career double-doubles, a league-high among active ACC players.
The veteran also became the all-time shot blocker in Boston College history over the weekend when she added two against Dartmouth. Swords' has 132 blocked shots in her career.
The Boston College Eagles (4-0) will now travel to Grand Bahamas Island to play in the Junkanoo Jam. The Eagles will open up on Friday, Nov. 26 against Seton Hall. On Saturday, Nov. 27, Boston College will play either Auburn or Sacred Heart. BC will return home to Conte Forum on Thursday, Dec. 2 to host Big Ten opponent Penn State ( 7 p.m.).
