CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Four players from the Boston College field hockey team were honored for their outstanding performances during the 2010 season with spots on the Northeast Region First and Second Teams, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on Thursday, November 18.
Seniors Janna Anctil and Emily Kozniuk, as well as graduate student Friderike Hauschildt, were selected to the First Team. Freshman Paige Norris was named to the Second Team. It is Anctil's second straight year on the First Team, and Kozniuk's third.
Anctil's 2010 campaign was the highlight of her career at Boston College. She led this year's offense in points (32) and goals (14) and was tied for second in assists (4), totaling her career points at 92 with 34 goals and 24 assists. She scored two hat tricks and a crucial, last-minute game winning goal to defeat Wake Forest for the first time since 1997. She was honored by the ACC as Player of the Week and received a spot on the All-ACC tournament team.
Her ambitious play earned her a few spots in the BC all-time record book, including fifth in Career Points (92), eighth for Goals in a Season (14), and seventh for Career Goals (34). Anctil finished the season ranked seventh in the ACC for Points Per Game and tied for fifth for Goals Per Game. Nationally, she was ranked 47th in Points Per Game and 32nd in Goals Per Game.
Two-time captain Kozniuk finished second on the team in points (19) and third in goals (6). She also led the team in assists (7) for the third year in a row. Her six goals included three gamewinners, one against ACC opponent Duke. This season she was named to the Preseason All-ACC team as well as being named to the All-ACC team. She started in every game she ever played and was third on the team in points in her sophomore (2008) and junior (2009) years. Last season her 15 assists were 12th most in the nation. Kozniuk ends her career with 61 career points with 15 goals and 31 assists, landing her at second place in BC's all-time record book for Career Assists (31).
Hauschildt joined the team for one season from Kiel, Germany where she played for her country and various club teams. Almost immediately she was able to make an impact on the team and become an integral part of the Eagles' defensive unit. She was a key contributor to the team's 1.75 GAA, which was third in the ACC. She was critical in defensive penalty corners and key for the out-letting ability of the team. Her playing experience and leadership allowed BC to play an aggressive press up front, knowing that she was there to secure the backfield. She started in every game in her first season with the Eagles, becoming a key anchor in the backfield that tallied six shutouts, earning the fourth place in the BC all-time record book.
Norris played in 18 games this season, starting in all but one. She quickly adjusted to collegiate field hockey and made an impact on the team as she tied for fifth in points (12) and tied for second for assists (4). She scored a goal on a corner in the last seconds of the game against ACC opponent Virginia to tie the score and force the game into overtime.
The Eagles finished the season at 12-7, fourth in the ACC and 16th nationally.
