Women's Basketball Cruises Past Hartford, 93-66

Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's basketball team went on a 15-3 first half run which Hartford never recovered from as the Eagles earned a 93-66 victory over the Hawks in the season opener at Conte Forum. BC is now 2-0 while Hartford dropped to 0-2.
Senior Stefanie Murphy led the Eagles with 24 points, while Kristen Doherty had 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Senior Carolyn Swords notched her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
BC built a 16 point lead with 10:10 to play in the first half behind a 15-3 run sparked by five points, five assists from Jaclyn Thoman (nine points, 10 assists, and three steals). The Eagles held Hartford scoreless for five minutes to build the lead.
The Eagles ended the half on a 7-0 run capped off on a three-pointer from Doherty to give BC a 40-18 lead. BC shot 40 percent in the half and had 10 steals.
The inside game of Stefanie Murphy kept BC ahead early in the second half. Murphy had 13 points with 11:49 still to play and BC's lead was 59-27.
A layup by Swords on a nice inside pass from Thoman gave BC a 70-49 lead with just under eight minutes to play.
The Eagles picked up their 14th steal with 3:55 to play when Doherty stepped in to a pass and went length to length for a layup amd am 82-54 lead. BC shot 50 percent from the floor, had a season-high 17 steals and season-high 24 assists.
Game Notes:
• BC had 11 steals in the first half and finished the game with 17. Last season, the most steals the Eagles had in a game was 10 vs. Virginia.
• The Eagles were 0-for-5 from the three point line in the first half; the Eagles hit only 3-for-13 in the game. In the season opener, BC hit 10 three-pointers, shooting an impressive 10-for-16 from the arc in the win vs. Boston University.
• At 13:54 in the game, Boston College had three freshmen (Kristen Doherty, Korina Chapman and Tiffany Ruffin) along with sophomore Kerri Shields for the first time at Conte Forum.
• Senior center Carolyn Swords notched her 32nd career double-double. She finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Swords also added four assists.
• Jaclyn Thoman notched 10 assists in the game. It was the fourth time the senior guard has reached double-figures in assists. Her career-high is 11 vs. Georgia Tech.
• Three players on the roster had four assists - Carolyn Swords, Tiffany Ruffin and Kristen Doherty.
• Sophomore Kerri Shields had a career-high six rebounds.
• Boston College will travel to Burlington, Vermont this weekend to play in the TD Bank Classic hosted by the University of Vermont. BC will play Dartmouth on Friday, Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. followed by Saturday's game against the Catamounts (3 p.m.). - WWW.BCEAGLES.COM -
