Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Atlantic Coast Conference leader Duke dropped the Boston College volleyball team, 25-22, 25-18, 25-14, on Friday night in Power Gym. The Eagles (8-21, 0-16 ACC) were led by junior Brennan Clark who posted 20 digs and an ace.
The Blue Devils (22-4, 14-2 ACC) relied on a balance attack from Amanda Robertson's 10 kills on .316 hitting percentage and Becci Burling's nine kills on .571 attack to earn their fifth straight conference win.
Freshman Cagla Sen had a team-high 24 assists and sophomore Krystle Higgins led the Eagles in efficiency with six kills on .500 hitting percentage.
Boston College put the conference leader in a corner to start the match. The Eagles stormed out to a 6-1 with kills from senior Rainey Hanley and Higgins. Duke tallied three straight points to inch back into the match, but kills from senior Kristen Baader, Dureva and Higgins stretched BC's lead to four.
The two sides were even at 11 and went back-and-forth to 18s. Kills by Burling and Robertson put Duke on top for good as the Blue Devils held on for a win in the first set, 25-22.
The second game was equally tight. Freshmen Alexandra Trobbe and Melissa McTighe aided in a point-for-point battle with Duke. The set was tied at 10 when the Blue Devils rattled off three consecutive points. Kills from Baader, Dureva and Hanley along with Duke errors brought the Eagles to within one at 17-16. Duke would regain momentum and hold on for a 25-18 win.
The Eagles were outpaced 25-14 in the third.
Boston College will resume conference play on Sunday, Nov. 14 at noon. Kristen Baader, Melanie Cimino, Rainey Hanley and Dani Moskitis will be honored in a pre-match Senior Day ceremony.
