Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
The Boston College cross country teams will compete in the 98th New England Cross Country Championship Meet on Saturday, October 9, in Franklin Park, Boston, Mass. The 2010 field features eight nationally and 16 regionally ranked women's programs across NCAA Divisions One, Two and Three, while the men's side boasts seven nationally and 21 regionally ranked teams.
The meet will kick-off with the women's sub varsity division at noon, followed by the varsity set to go off at 12:45 p.m. The two divisions will each compete on a five kilometer course (Women's 5K Map).
The men's varsity will run at 1:30 p.m. and the sub varsity will compete at 2:15 p.m. Both races will be conducted over eight kilometers (Men's 8K Map).
Head coach Randy Thomas and the women's team will look to regain the crown after finishing as the runner-up in 2009, one year removed from taking the title in 2008.
Jillian King, a 2009 All-ACC Team Member, will lead the nation's 22nd-ranked Eagles into the 50 team field. ACC Performer of the Week (9/13/10) senior Caroline King and sophomore Elizabeth Hynes, BC's top finisher in 2009, will also look to return the title to the Heights.
Since taking over the men's program in 2008, head coach Matt Kerr has guided two Eagle runners, Timothy Ritchie (2009) and Patrick Mellea (2008), to individual titles at the New England Cross Country Championship.
On the men's side, BC will look to senior Michael Keebler and sophomore Louis Serafini for strong performances in a 52 team field. Keebler will try to top the personal record (25:51) he set at the NEICAAA XC Meet last year, while Serafini will be making his first appearance of the 2010 campaign this weekend.
The New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) is comprised of 65 academic institutions in the six states that make up New England. Originally formed in 1886 with seven charter members, the organization is now made up of 17 Division-I schools, with six Division-II members and 35 Division-III colleges and universities.
