Chestnut Hill, Mass. -
Forty days after its last home match, Boston College returns home to Power Gym to face-off against Virginia (7-8, 1-4 ACC) at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 8, and Virginia Tech (10-5, 1-4 ACC) on Sunday, October 10, at 1 p.m. The Eagles (8-10, 0-5 ACC) will look to earn their first conference win of the season in front of a home crowd.
"This is a big weekend for us," BC head coach Chris Campbell stated. "It's our first ACC match at home. We've done some nice things in the past few weeks on the road, but haven't been able to sustain them for long periods of time. We're looking for more consistent play than we have had in recent matches. We have had a good week of practice. We want to extend those periods when we play well and get a pair of wins this weekend."
The Eagles trail in both all-time series, having beaten Virginia once in 10 previous meetings and holding a 7-5 record against Virginia Tech.
Under the first-year head coach, many players are having their most productive seasons to date.
From the back row, senior Kristen Baader has already established a personal single-season best with 282 digs, ranks third in the ACC with 22 service aces and fifth with 4.34 digs per set.
Offensively, junior Tsvetelina Dureva is currently hitting a career-high .233, while her average of 3.28 kills per game is fifth best in the ACC.
Virginia went 1-1 last weekend, with a loss to Georgia Tech, 1-3, and a five-set win over Clemson. The Cavaliers were ranked No. 74 in the first national Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) of the 2010 season earlier this week.
Sophomore Jessica O'Shoney and junior Simone Asque will lead the Cavaliers into the Heights. O'Shoney's hitting percentage of .388 is second highest in the conference and Asque is the ACC's second ranked player in kills per game (4.05) and aces per set (0.40).
Virginia Tech's lineup features the conference's top two players in hitting percentage, senior Felicia Willoughby and sophomore Cara Baarendse. The two boast attack efficiencies of .395 and .392 respectively.
Virginia Tech (RPI No. 33) dropped both matches a week ago. The Hokies were topped by Georgia Tech and Clemson in five-set bouts.
