Men's Tennis Concludes ITA Regional Competition

New Haven, Conn. - The Boston College men's tennis team competed in the ITA Regional Tournament from October 13-19, at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Juniors Alex Skinner and Akash Muppidi led the Eagles in the main draw, as they both reached the fourth round of the contest. Collectively, BC went 10-8 over the duration of competition.
Skinner garnered three wins in four match while in New Haven. The junior double-bageled Chris Foster of Marist in the opening round and knocked out Josh Tchan of Harvard in three sets, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, to advance. In the third round, Skinner defeated Alex Faust of Princeton in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, before falling to No. 2 Marc Power of Yale, 6-4, 6-1.
Muppidi went 2-1 in the main draw of the tournament. As the third seeded player, he earned a bye in round one and easily defeated Nate Gery of Columbia, 6-3, 6-1, in round two. Muppidi eliminated Tom Deighton of Brown, 6-1, 7-6, the following round, but fell to No. 9 Matijo Pecotic, 6-2, 6-1, in the fourth round.
Freshman Jonathan Raude also returned to the Heights with a 3-1 record. The Rego Park, N.Y. native fought his way through the qualifying round with an upsets over seventh-seeded Ivan Turadic of Penn, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, and Peter Skvarka (FDU), 6-4, 6-3. After reaching the main draw, Raude defeated Andrew Marcus of UConn in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, before being sent home by Asika Isoh of Army, 6-3, 7-5.
Senior Erik Kreutzer and freshman Michael McGinnis also competed in the singles draw.
Kreutzer received a bye in round one of the main draw, bue fell to Casey MacMaster (Harvard), 6-4, 6-4, while McGinnis fell in three sets in his opening qualifier against James Qwei, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Boston College went 2-3 in the doubles competition.
The pairing of Muppidi and sophomore Billy Grokenberger defeated Verano and Jang-Milsen, 8-3, in the opener, but lost to top-seeded Gauthier/Feldman of Cornell, 8-4, in round two.
Kreutzer and Skinner also won their first doubles match, beating Deighton/Burk of Brown, 8-5, before falling to Isoh/Johnson, 9-8, in a hard fought match.
First-time pairing senior Adam Davison and McGinnis also lost in a close match. The two Eagles were topped, 8-6, by the Bernstein/McElwain pairing from Cornell. Boston College will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete in the Alabama Invitational from Nov. 5-7.
