NEWTON, Mass. - The weather wasn't ideal with rain and heavy gusts of wind, but the Boston College field hockey team worked through the challenging conditions for their ninth win of the season against the Northeastern Huskies. Tilly Brampton's late first half goal secured the 2-1 win for the Eagles at the Newton Campus Field.
Boston College struck first as Paige Norris passed the ball into the circle and Courtney Tavener tipped it in from the left post for her third goal of the season.
Northeastern responded quickly on its own corner, but BC's offense wasn't done yet. The Eagles continued to be aggressive on offense and another corner presented an opportunity. Positioned on the right post, Tilly Brampton was able to redirect Jacqui Moorfield's shot to put BC up 2-1 in the first half.
The Eagles outshot the Huskies 9-6 and held a 7-3 edge on corners, which were crucial for the Eagles once more.
Goalie Kristine Stigas made four stops in the win.
Boston College improves to 9-5, while Northeastern falls to 6-9.
The Eagles play again this weekend when they host New Hampshire at 3:00 p.m. Players will don pink Under Armour uniforms as they participate in the national `Stick It To Cancer' campaign. BC will also welcome several members of the Council for Women of Boston College to the contest.
Game Notes: Tilly Brampton scored her second goal of the season... Carla Tamer turned in another strong defensive game, making several key blocks and redirecting Northeastern's shots all night.
