CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -
The No. 8 Boston College women's ice hockey squad will travel to Vermont for its first Hockey East conference contests of the season. The Eagles will begin the weekend with a 7:00 p.m. game on Friday, October 15, followed by a 4:00 p.m. start on Saturday, October 16.
BC enters the weekend with a new eighth-place ranking, rising two spots from last week's position at 10th.
Last season, BC went 1-1-1 against the Catamounts. The Eagles still hold a 16-3-1 advantage in the all-time series.
Looking Back
Last time these two teams met, BC skated to a tie and nabbed an extra league point with a win in the shootout. The Eagles' offense was dominant, with Ashley Motherwell and Danielle Welch scoring the first two goals to give BC a lead. Vermont responded in the second period, though, with two goals in under a minute. Blake Bolden's second period goal looked like it might end the game, but Vermont responded once more in the third to push the game into overtime. Bolden came through for the Eagles again during the shootout after the first five players were unsuccessful in their attempts.
Last Weekend
The Eagles wrapped up a two-game New York roadtrip last weekend with wins at Colgate (4-0) and Syracuse (5-2). BC's offense scored nine goals to its opponents' two, and goaltender Molly Schaus made 50 saves for .962 save percentage, as well as recording her 18th career shutout.
Wasylk Making Waves
Freshman forward Taylor Wasylk earned Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honors after recording two goals and three assists in BC's first two games.
On Friday, October 8 Wasylk started the Eagles' offense with a power play goal in the 4-0 win at Colgate. On Saturday, October 9 Boston College traveled to Syrause and Wasylk's streak continued as she scored the final goal in the 5-2 win against the Orange. She also assisted on Mary Restuccia's tie-breaker and two of Kelli Stack's goals.
Wasylk (2-3-5) leads BC's offense with Stack.
