Women's Track Wins Boston University Tri-Meet

BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's track and field team won its first meet of the indoor track season at the Boston University Tri-Meet on January 14 at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The Eagles had six individual wins, and an amazing 25 top-ten finishes in the event. Senior Meaghan Callahan, sophomore Anna Cioffredi, junior Caroline King, senior Gretchen Andrus and freshman Jillian King all recorded victories in their respective events.
Boston College won the meet with 145 points. UMass Amherst finished with 137 points which was good enough for second place. Sacred Heart University finished in third place with 132 points, and host Boston University finished in fourth place with 112 points.
Callahan won the 400m dash with a time of 58.53. Cioffredi posted her victory in the 500m dash crossing the line at 1:16.36. Caroline King kept the string of victories coming for the Eagles as she took first place in the one mile run with a time of 4:53.79, and also won the 800m run with a time of 2:14.26. Andrus came out victorious in the 1000m run with a time 2:54.78. Jillian King wrapped up the Eagles' first place finishes with a win in the 3000m run with a time of 9:39.83.
In addition to the individual triumphs, BC ran also had a trio of runners finish with second place finishes. Senior Christine Sullivan finished just behind Caroline King in the 800m run with a time of 2:17.16. Freshman Grace Rodriguez brought home a second place finish in the 1000m run crossing the line at the 2:55.31 mark. Graduate student Mallory Champa captured a second place finish of her own in the 3000m run with a time of 9:48.63.
The Eagles also got some good efforts in the field events as well. Sophomore Georgette Asfoura finished in second place in the high jump with a jump of 1.55m, and sophomore Kelsey Huckins came in second place in the weight throw with a toss of 16.11m.
The Eagles are back in action on January 23 when they will travel to Kingston, RI to compete in the Rhode Island Invitational.
