BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's hockey team dropped a hard fought battle against Northeastern on Monday night, 7-4, at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass.
The Eagles drop to 5-8-8 on the season while the Huskies move to 13-5-2.
BC came out of the locker room strong and applied quick pressure on the Huskies to gain an early edge in the contest. The Eagles' efforts paid off six minutes in to the first period, as freshman Caitlin Walsh managed to tip home a feed from fellow first-year Dru Burns that gave BC a 1-0 lead.
Northeastern would even the score minutes later and grab the lead on another quick goal with four minutes remaining in the opening frame.
As they did in the first period, the Eagles provided early pressure on the Huskies in the second. Freshman Blake Bolden helped BC tie the game at two with a blistering wrist shot that was tipped past the Huskies goaltender by senior Allie Thunstrom for her eleventh goal of the season.
The Huskies would retake the lead with seven minutes left in the period but the score would even up once more, when Walsh knocked in her second tally of the game at 16:42 to make the score 3-3. The Eagles had one more burst of energy in them before the end of the period as sophomore Mary Restuccia would give BC a 4-3 lead off assists from freshman Ashley Motherwell and Walsh; her third point of the game.
Despite a major swing of momentum toward the Eagles, Northeastern would tie the game midway through the third period while on the power play and add the go-ahead score only a few minutes later. They would score two additional tallies while on a late power play and the game would finish 7-4.
Sophomore goalie Kiera Kingston made 26 saves on the evening for the Eagles as Northeastern outshot BC, 33-22.
The Eagles will return to Kelley rink on Thursday evening where they will face non-conference opponent St. Lawrence at 7:00 p.m.
