Victoria DiMartino has played in three games and notched a point in all three games. Tonight against Brown, DiMartino broke out with two goals and an assist to lead the Eagles to a 5-0 victory over host Brown University. The Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season, while Brown is now 0-1.
The Eagles freshman now has four goals and an assist (nine points) in three games. A native of Massapequa, NY, DiMartino opened the scoring just over two minutes into the game. DiMartino pounced on a rebound and ripped a shot into the low left corner for a 1-0 BC lead.
In the 22nd minute of play, DiMartino struck again off a restart. The Eagles forward shot the ball from just outside the 18-yard box and placed it into the lower left corner for a 2-0 Eagles lead.
The third goal was a family affair as the freshman Victoria DiMartino set up her older sister, Gina DiMartino for a 3-0 Eagles lead. The goal came in the 64 minute mark and was Gina DiMartino's first goal of the season
Freshman Kristen Mewis netted the fourth goal at the 77 minute mark. Mewis chipped the shot over the Brown goalkeeper from the left post. It was the first collegiate goal for Mewis, who now has one goal and two assists in three games. Defender Alaina Beyar and sophomore midfielder Julia Bouchelle set up the Mewis goal.
Another freshman gave the Eagles a 5-0 lead. Midfielder Maddie Payne headed a corner kick off the foot of sophomore Marissa Mello at the 84 minute mark. It was Payne's first collegiate goal.
BC goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni earned her third shut out of the season. BC had 31 shots in the game, while Brown was held to just eight. The Eagles also had five corner kicks to Brown's one. Victoria DiMartino led BC with seven shots, while Brooke Knowlton had five shots. Gina DiMartino and Kristen Mewis had four shots apiece.
Game Notes:
Sophomore Marissa Mello and junior Jillian MacNeil saw their first minutes of the season ... Mello recorded her first career point with an assist on Maddie Payne's goal ... Defender Hannah Cerrone recorded her third assist of the season. Cerrone has picked up an assist in all three BC victories this season ... The Eagles will host Holy Cross on Sunday, September 6 at 1 p.m. at the Newton Soccer Field.
