No. 6 Women's Soccer Tops CCSU, 4-0

Chestnut Hill, MA - Junior Brooke Knowlton scored two first half goals to lead No. 6 Boston College (7-0) past Central Connecticut State University, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon in front of 331 fans. The Eagles are now 8-0, while CCSU drops to 2-4-1.
The 8-0 start for the Eagles is the best since the 2003 team opened up at 8-0. BC will now open up ACC action on Thursday, September 24 in Coral Gables, Fla. at Miami (7:30 p.m.). The Eagles will then play No. 5 Florida State on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
Sophomore Julia Bouchelle opened the scoring for the Eagles at the 11 minute mark. Bouchelle one-timed a pass from Victoria DiMartino into the upper right hand corner for a 1-0 BC lead. Bouchelle's shot was from just inside the 18-yard box.
Four minutes later, Bouchelle sent Victoria DiMartino in down the sideline and her shot hit the post. Two minutes later, the Eagles went up 2-0 when Gina DiMartino sent Brooke Kowlton in alone on a beautiful soft pass through the two defenders. Knowlton one-timed the pass from DiMartino by the CCSU goalkeeper Caity Casey (six saves).
Knowlton would give the Eagles a 3-0 lead at 23:37 when she burst through the CCSU defense off a pass from Julia Bouchelle (one goal, one assist). Knowlton calmly slid the ball by a diving goalkeeper.
Boston College scored the final goal of the day when Kristen Mewis took a pass from Maddie Payne and ripped a left-footed shot near post at 36:41.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni picked up her eighth win and sixth shutout of the season. The Eagles had 11 shots on goal, while CCSU managed three. BC also had the edge in corner kicks, 11-3.
Game Notes:
Since Alison Kulik took over the BC program in 1997, this is the most goals scored by a team since the 2003 team. The 2003 team went 8-0 to start the year and notched 39 goals. The 2009 team is now 8-0 and has scored 32 goals ... BC now has three players with double figures in points scored - Victoria DiMartino (eight goals, two assists, 18 points), Brooke Knowlton (six goals, three assists, 15 points) and Gina DiMartino (five goals, five assists, 15 points) ... Gina DiMartino has now scored a goal or has recorded an assist in the last six games (four goals, three assists) ... This is the third game this season in which Brooke Knowlton has scored two goals (vs. Fairfield, Marist and Central Conn.).
