CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College Volleyball head coach, Andrea Leonard, announced today that Melanie Cimino, Brennan Clark and Mollie Kolosky will serve as captains for the 2009 season.
"We are very excited to announce our captains for the 2009 season," Andrea Leonard said. "Mollie, Brennan and Mel are ready for this role and have been preparing for it all summer. They each bring unique qualities that we are confident will continue to lead the team in the upward direction of our program."
Cimino enters her junior season as the most experienced captain on the roster. Originally from Irving, California, she finished the 2008 season as the team leader in blocks with 60 and was third in kills with 154.
"Mel brings the fire," Leonard said. "She will work as hard as anyone out there and make no excuses. She is not afraid to confront issues and spearhead the intensity needed to make an impact."
Kolosky comes into her second year with the Eagles after a successful individual performance in 2008. She finished the season fifth on the squad in kills with 133 and third in service aces with 21.
"Mollie brings an attention to detail, great communication, maturity and a fierce commitment level," Leonard said about her middle hitter.
Clark finished her freshman season in 2008 with the second highest total of sets played with 106 and was the team leader in digs with 320.
"Brennan is more of a quiet leader by example," Leonard said. "She is very team oriented, unselfish and has a solid level of determination."
With practices starting this week and the new leadership in place, Coach Leonard believes BC Volleyball looks poised and ready to start the new season off in the right direction.
"The team is very excited and ready to be challenged," Leonard said. "We anticipate a very healthy and exciting pre-season."
