Boston College center Carolyn Swords was named to the 2009-10 preseason "Wade Watch" list for the State Farm Wade Trophy Division I Player of the Year announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) today. Swords is one of four ACC student-athletes to be named to the list.
The prestigious 25-member preseason Wade Watch list was selected by a committee of leading coaches, journalists and basketball administrators. It is comprised of top Division I student-athletes who best embody the spirit of Margaret Wade according to the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.
Swords, a native of Sudbury, MA, helped the Eagles to a 23-12 season and advance to the 2009 Final Four of the WNIT. She was a finalist for the 2009 World University Games with USA Basketball in June and was a finalist for the 2009 State Farm All-America team.
Last season, Swords averaged 15.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-6 center reached the 500-Point-500-Rebound Club on March 1 against NC State when she scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Swords, a 2009 second team All-ACC selection, led the country in field goal percentage last season (67.8%), which now stands as the new program record in FG percentage.
