Adam Roberts Named Sportsman of the Year

San Francisco, Calif. - The Intercollegiate Sailing Association has named Boston College senior Adam Roberts Sportsman of the Year and winner of the Robert Hobbs Trophy. Roberts was also named an ICSA All-American for the fourth time.
"There are so many great competitors and great sportsman in college sailing - I am truly honored to have received this award," Roberts said in his acceptance speech.
Earlier this season, the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association recognized Roberts as its Sportsman of the Year. Roberts helped Boston College win the 2008 & 2009 Team Race National Championships and was also the skipper of the Eagles' 2007 second place finish at the Sloop National Championships. Roberts is a member of the US Sailing Team and is currently campaigning for a spot on the 2012 US Olympic Sailing Team.
In total, a staggering 10 members of the Eagles' coed and women's rosters received All-American honors. Senior Brian Kamilar was named an All-American and was also a finalist for College Sailor of the Year. Sophomore Tyler Sinks was named All-American, and his classmate Taylor Canfield was named to the All-American Second Team. Seniors Carrie Amarante and Andrew Schneider were named All-American Crew for the second time, while senior Lauren Gillooly received her first All-American Crew honors. Last week, women's sailors Anne Haeger, Leigh Kempton, and Martha Pitt all received All-American honors.
