San Francisco, Calif.- The Boston College Coed team struggled for the first two days of racing for the 2009 ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National as the Eagles lingered in ninth place. A strong sailing day on the final day of action landed the Eagles in fifth place of the competition, as St. Mary's captured the championship.
With just eight of thirty six races to go, BC was in ninth place to start the day. Seniors Brian Kamilar and Andrew Schneider started the rally by winning the first race in A division. Realistically, the Eagles could not finish higher than fifth, as Old Dominion University, in fourth place, started the day over forty points ahead of fifth and over sixty ahead of BC.
Senior Adam Roberts and crews Evan Cooke and Carrie Amarante went into the last set of races in fifth, with a slight lead over Navy and Roger Williams. Roberts and Amarante finished the regatta with their best set, posting a third and a seventh, and claiming fifth overall for the Eagles.
The last day rally and fifth place finish at the Coed Championships concludes an excellent year for BC Sailing - a year which included the Eagles' first-ever Women's Singlehanded National Championship; a successful defense of the Team Race National Championship; a 3rd place finish at the Women's National Championship; the Eagles' first-ever NEISA Women's Singlehanded Conference Championship; a successful defense of the NEISA Conference Team Race Championship; and the Eagles' third consecutive NEISA Coed Conference Championship.
