Volleyball Announces Recruiting Class

Boston College volleyball head coach Andrea Leonard has announced that five recruits, Kristen Mussenden, Clare Flood, Morgan Fry-Pasic, Krystle Higgins, and Val Mattaliano will join the Eagles beginning in the fall of 2009.
"We are very excited and thrilled to welcome this class to the Boston College Volleyball program," said head coach Andrea Leonard. "This class is large in terms of numbers as well as experience and the success they bring into our gym. We are proud to have them wear the maroon and gold uniform!"
Mussenden (Windermere, Florida), a 5-10 setter from Lake Highland Preparatory School, was a member of five Florida 3A State Championship Teams. She was named Orange County Athlete of the Year in 2008, and was nominated for the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year award. As a junior, she was named Central Florida Volleyball Player of the Year. Mussenden was listed as one of the top 250 recruits in the nation according to PrepVolleyball.com.
"Krissy is a very talented setter who brings a high level of experience, success and potential to help us compete with the best.," Leonard said. "Her background with Orlando Volleyball Academy and Coach Sindee Snow has prepared her to make this transition quickly. We are elated to have Krissy's level of excellence join our program."
Flood (Bakersfield, California), a 6-3 middle blocker from Bakersfield Christian High School, led her team to the Division IV state quarterfinals in her senior year. She was named to the Bakersfield Californian All-Area team in 2008, averaging 3.1 kills per game and registering 90 blocks to go along with 59 digs.
"Clare brings a solid front row game to our program in her ability to pose significant blocking presence along with her ability to be a terminating hitter," Leonard said. "We are looking forward to adding Clare's determination, competitive drive and impact at the net within our program."
Fry-Pasic (Madison, Wisconsin), a 5-11 outside hitter from Madison West High School, was a two-time co-captain for her high school team. She earned all-state honorable mention honors from the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association after her junior year, and was a three time all-conference and all-city honoree. Fry-Pasic holds school records at Madison West for career kills, digs and service aces.
"Morgan brings an unmatched high energy level, enthusiasm and athletic ability that will immediately impact our program," Leonard said. "She is a gamer who raises the level around her consistently."
Higgins (Inglewood, California), a 6-1 middle blocker from The Harvard-Westlake School, was ranked No. 77 on Prepvolleyball.com's Senior Aces list. She was named to the Mission League first team in 2008, and earned second team honors in 2007. Her team won a Division III State Championship in 2007. Higgins was also a member of the 2007 USA High Performance A2 Team.
"We are very excited to have Krystle join our program," Leonard said. "Her elite level training along with her incredible athleticism and overall potential is very exciting. She brings a multitude of experience, success and ability that will certainly allow us to make dramatic strides in every facet of our program."
Mattaliano (Winfield, Illinois), a 6-0 middle blocker/outside hitter from Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois. She earned All-East Suburban League Conference, Du Page All-Area and Daily Herald Honorable Mention honors. Mattaliano's high school team was a state championship finalist, and her Sports Performance Club team was a third place finalist in the JDVA National Championship Club Division.
"Val will add immediate depth to our program right away," Leonard said. "She comes from an elite background of training with Benet Academy and Sports Performance Volleyball Club. Her versatility, and inspiring athleticsm is what teams thrive on for success. Val is well prepared with her training, discipline and commitment to help our program transition to the next level."
The Eagles finished the 2008 season with a four set win over Maryland on Senior Day, concluding the year with an 8-24 record (2-18 ACC).
