Softball Set to Host ACC Series Against NC State

The Boston College softball team (16-26, 2-10 ACC) will look to record its first series win in conference play this season when it takes on NC State at Shea Field.
Eagles and Wolfpack Battle This Weekend
-Boston College will host NC State at Shea Field for just the second time in the history of both programs.
-The Eagles are 2-9 in the all-time series with the Wolfpack, with their last win a 2-1
victory at NC State on March 15, 2008.
-NC State won two out of three games in the series between the two teams last season in Raleigh.
Patience at the Plate
-The Eagles have walked 133 times through 42 games this season, and are on pace to shatter the single season record of 148 walks, set in 2008.
-BC has walked five or more times in a game on nine different occasions this season.
-The Eagles rank third in the ACC in total walks (133) and walks per game (3.17).
Wilkins Walking Into the Record Book
-Brittany Wilkins leads the team with 30 walks, and is just one walk away from breaking the school record set by Renee Ramos in 2008.
-Wilkins ranks among the most patient hitters in college softball. She is tied for 17th in the NCAA in walks per game, averaging 0.75 base-on-balls per contest, and is tops in the ACC in the same category.
Hit Streaks
-The Eagles have had multiple players with extended hitting streaks over the course of the season.
-Irene Delagrammaticas has the longest hit streak of the season for the Eagles, hitting safely in the nine consecutive games from April 5 - April 18. She also had a six game hitting streak from Feb. 7 - Feb. 20.
-Taylor Peyton hit safely in six straight games early in the season from Feb. 21 - March 4.
-Dani Weir hit safely in six straight games in a streak that spanned from March 6 - March 21.
Extra Inning Gems
-On April 8, against nationally-ranked Massachusetts, Morgan Kidd recorded one of the strongest starts of the year for the Eagles.
-Kidd pitched 8.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters.
-On April 19 at Maryland, Taylor Peyton pitched 11.0 innings in the longest outing of her career, allowing one earned run on eight hits while striking out four batters to preserve a 2-1 victory for the Eagles.
Clutch Hitting
-The Eagles have several players that are batting over .300 with runners in scoring position.
-Irene Delagrammaticas leads the team with 14 hits in 37 at-bats for a .378 average with runners in scoring position.
-Brittany Wilkins is batting 9-for-28 (.321 average) with runners in scoring position.
-Dani Weir has also been solid with runners in scoring position, batting 13-for-41. (.317 average)
Nothing Gets By Them
-The catching duo of Amy Tunstall and Brittany Wilkins has been very strong defensively behind the plate this year.
- They have allowed just three passed balls this season, ranking first in the ACC in that category.
-They rank second in the conference in runners caught stealing, throwing out 17 runners thus far in 2009.
Speedy on the Basepaths
-BC has had standout performances as a team and individually in the stolen bases category this season.
-On February 7 against Nicholls State, for just the third time in this decade, the Eagles stole five bases in a game. Katrina Vasquez (2), Brittany Wilkins, Irene Delagrammaticas, and Dani Weir all had steals in the game.
-On April 1 against Holy Cross, Irene Delagrammaticas became the first BC player in this decade to record four steals in one game.
Eagles Record Team No-Hitter
-On February 8 against Bryant, Taylor Peyton and Morgan Kidd combined for a no-hitter in BC's 9-0 win in five innings over the Bulldogs.
-Peyton pitched 4.0 innings, allowing no hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Kidd pitched the final inning, striking out two batters.
-Peyton recorded BC's last no-hitter on April 24, 2008 against Rhode Island, pitching 7.0 innings, walking one, and striking out three batters.
