Women's Track & Field Takes Second at ECAC Championships

BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's track and field team finished in second place at the 2009 ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Reggie Lewis Center. Junior Caitlyn Bailey was named the Most Outstanding Performer for her efforts in the 800m.
Duke won the event with a total of 56 points while the Eagles finished behind them with 40. Syracuse, Hampton and Temple rounded out the top five.
Bailey set a new school record in the 800m and reached the NCAA Automatic qualifying time when she won with a 2:04.66 which was almost five seconds better than the second place finisher. It is also the seventh-best 800m time in the country this season.
Graduate student Mary Heitkamp (2:10.71) and sophomore Siobhan Breagy (2:11.45) also scored points in the event as they finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
Junior Samantha Gawrych won the 1000m by more than three seconds when she finished in 2:47.38 which is the third-best time in program history. Freshman Kaitlyn Cooney also scored as she placed eighth at 2:55.46.
The 4x800m relay team of Andrus, Heitkamp, junior Christine Sullivan and sophomore Madeline Wallace took home top honors in the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:58.33
Junior Gretchen Andrus finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:51.91.
