Chestnut Hill, MA - The Boston College women's lacrosse team will play their home-opener on Wednesday March 11 at 4 p.m. against Brown University.
It is a special day for the Eagles and the Boston College athletic community. The date not only marks the first game for the women's lacrosse team on their new state-of-the-art turf field at the Newton Campus, but the game will also be played to celebrate the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and the Eagles' honorary teammate, Judith Theriault.
The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation was created to raise awareness of pediatric brain tumors and match young children battling the disease with college teams near their hometowns.
In March of 2008, the women's lacrosse team joined other collegiate athletic programs throughout the country by adopting Massachusetts native, Judith Theriault. Theriault was diagnosed with a brain tumor and has been courageously battling the disease for several years. She and her family have quickly become part of the BC lacrosse family, attending games, post-game tailgates, team dinners, Thanksgiving meals, and holiday parties.
"Judith has been an inspiration to our team from the moment we met. Her contagious smile and loving spirit always remind us of the important things in life, and there is no question she has made each of our lives richer," said Head Coach Bowen Holden
In an effort to support the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and other children like Judith, the Eagles will be raising funds at the game through donations and the raffling of a FOJ shaft signed by the entire 2009 team.
Mark your calendars and join the BC women's lacrosse team as they take on the Brown Bears and pediatric brain tumors this Wednesday at 4 p.m.
