Women's Basketball Breezes Past Red Storm, 68-64

QUEENS, NY - Sophomore Stefanie Murphy scored 18 of her 23 points to lead Boston College past St. John's, 68-64, in the third round of the WNIT at Carnesecca Arena.
Murphy notched her second double-double in the WNIT as she grabbed 10 rebounds, while Carolyn Swords added 10 points and nine rebounds and Jaclyn Thoman notched 10 points and three assists. Ayla Brown added six points and six rebounds.
BC went into halftime with a 35-23 advantage, shooting 50 percent from the field. The Eagles built the lead by dropping the ball inside as Swords had eight points and Murphy added six, while Mickel Picco had seven from the outside. Kelly McManmon and Da'Shena Stevens kept St. John's close as with seven and six points respectively.
In the second half, St. John's came out in a zone and Boston College struggled in the first couple of minutes.
A jumper by Murphy at 12:21 gave BC a 10 point lead. St. John's went on a six point run before Murphy stopped the run with another jumper at 10:02. The lead went from 4 to six points three time before a layup by Brittanny Johnson gave BC a 10 point lead with 3:02 to play. The Red Storm cut into the 10 point lead with two desperation three pointers by Britney Murphy and Sky Lindsay.
Boston College will play Georgetown on Sunday, March 29.
