Swords and Picco Honored By The ACC

Chestnut Hill, MA - Boston College center Carolyn Swords was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-ACC women's basketball second-team as announced today by the conference. Junior Mickel Picco was named to the honorable mention All-ACC team. It is the first time since BC joined the ACC in 2005-06 in which the Eagles landed two players on the All-ACC list.
A sophomore, Swords is averaging a career-high 15.1 points and 9.0 rebounds a game. She leads the ACC and has led the country in field goal percentage (68.6%). Swords' has notched 10 double-doubles this season and became the 17th player in the history of the program to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds (888 points, 502 rebounds).
Swords', a native of Sudbury, Mass., is the second player from the program to earn All-ACC second-team honors. Brooke Queenan earned second-team accolades in 2005-06. In 2006-07, Kathrin Ress was named to the third-team.
Picco, a native of Austin, Texas, leads the team in scoring (16.0 ppg), minutes played (33.0 mpg.), free throw percentage (84.4%) and three-pointers made (74). Picco is now fourth on the all-time list for three-pointers made with 157. She has led the team in scoring 14 times and has notched double-figures in scoring 26 times this season.
Boston College finished the season at 7-7 in the ACC and 19-10 overall. The Eagles are the No.7 seed in the ACC Tournament and will play No. 10 Miami on Thursday, March 5 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
