Women's Ice Hockey Hosts Two Game Series With Maine

Women's Ice Hockey vs Maine February 7 & 8 at 1 p.m.
Boston College women's ice hockey enters the weekend series with Maine coming off a win of Northeastern 3-1 in the Women's Beanpot Quaterfinals on Tuesday. The Eagles will face Harvard in the championship game, February 10 at 8 p.m.
Last Time Out: Success in the `Pot
The Eagles defeated Northeastern University for the fourth time this season to advance the championship game of the 31st annual Women's Beanpot. BC scored at 2:38 in the opening frame with junior Allie Thunstrom centering a pass to Mary Restuccia at the top of the crease for the tip-in. The Huskies ties the score just 38 second later and the two teams battled through a scoreless rest of the first and second before the Eagles netted two third period goals for the win.
Last Time vs. Maine:
BC traveled to Orono early in the season for their first showdown with the Black Bears in November. Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, OH) netted the first hat-trick of her career, but the Eagles couldn't muster the fire power to hold off the Black Bears and were handed their first Hockey East loss of the season 5-3.
In 2009...
BC is 7-3 in the second half of the season having fared well in several January match-ups against ECAC teams and a 3-2 record in Hockey East for the month. The Eagles are averaging 3.1 goals per game while holding their opponents to 1.8. The team has outscored their opponents 31-18 and outshot them 295 to 277.
Rookie Honors
Freshman forward Mary Restuccia (Chester Springs, PA) was named the Hockey East Mission Rookie of the Month for January. Restuccia recorded 8 points (5g, 3a) in nine games.
Century Club
Junior Allie Thunstrom (Maplewood, MN) recorded her 100th career point in Tuesday's win over Northeastern. Thunstrom had two assists in the game to bring her career total to 101 points (60-41--101) in 95 games. She is only the seventh player in the history of the women's program to reach the mark.
Closing In
Seniors Meghan Fardelmann (Lansing, KS) and Becky Zavisza (Suffield, CT) are also closing in on the 100 point mark. Fardelmann has 93 career points and 14 on the season, Zavisza is close behind with 91 career and 12 for the year.
Fight to the Finish
The Eagles enter the final month of the season one of five teams separated by only three points at the top of the Hockey East standings. BC is currently tied with Providence for 2nd place with 21 points trailing New Hampshire by two points.
Solid in Net
Junior goaltender Molly Schaus (Natick, MA) has put up solid numbers in the second half of the season, posting a .935 save percentage and a 1.82 GAA. Her eight shutouts on the season and fifteen in her career are new school records.
National Stage
The Eagles are putting up impressive numbers on the local and national levels.
• Kelli Stack is 10th in the country in points per game with 44 points in 26 games played, she is also tied for 4th nationally in the assists category with 26 dishes on the season.
• Allie Thunstrom tops out at 29 in ppg with 33 points in 27 contests, averaging 1.22 points per game. She is tied for 4nd in the country in short-handed goals.
• Molly Schaus ranks among the best goaltenders in the country, with the nation's fourth best save percentage (.938)
