Softball Drops Two Games at Comfort Suites Invitational

Orlando, Fla. - The Boston College softball team (4-5, 0-0 ACC) fell to Portland State, 6-3, and Central Florida, 2-1, in its second day of competition in the Comfort Suites Invitational at UCF Softball Stadium.
Brittany Wilkins went a combined 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Dani Weir went 3-for-6 with an RBI to lead the BC offense on the day.
Portland State-6, BC-3 - Portland State scored three runs in the third and fourth innings off of BC starting pitcher Alison Gage (1-1) to take a 6-0 lead.
The Eagles rallied for two runs in the top half of the fifth inning. Taylor Peyton singled to right center and Lizzy Ploen walked to put two runners on base. Brittany Wilkins later drove home both runs with a double to right center field to make it 6-2.
BC scored another run in the top half of the sixth inning when pinch runner Lisa Omoto scored on a throwing error, but were retired in order in the top of the seventh.
UCF-2, BC-1 - Boston College received another strong start from Taylor Peyton (3-3), who pitched her fourth complete game of the season, allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings of work, but the Eagles fell to the Knights, 2-1.
The Eagles got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning. Brittany Wilkins led off with a walk, and Irene Delagrammaticas followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Wilkins into scoring position. After Amy Tunstall fouled out, Dani Weir delivered a two-out RBI single to center field to give BC a 1-0 lead.
The Knights would rally in the bottom of the sixth inning for two runs with three doubles in their first four at-bats of the inning against Peyton to take a 2-1 lead. UCF starting pitcher Ashleigh Cole finished a complete game by retiring the Eagles in order in the top of the seventh.
The Eagles will continue competition in the tournament round of the Comfort Suites Invitational tomorrow at the UCF Softball Stadium.
