Bailey and Heitkamp Reach Provisional Qualifying Mark At Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman Anna Cioffredi won the 500m dash at the BU Valentine Invitational on Friday with the fifth-best time in Boston College women's track and field history. In addition, junior Caitlyn Bailey and graduate student Mary Heitkamp both reached NCAA Provisional qualifying marks in the 800m.
Cioffredi took first in the 500m dash with a time of 1:14.02. Junior Meaghan Callahan placed third in the event at 1:15.54 while freshman Sara Missert took fifth by crossing the finish line in 1:16.32. Senior Alicia Henry also finished in the top 10 with a time of 1:16.91 which was good enough for eighth place.
Bailey was the top collegiate performer in the 800m and finished second overall with a time of 2:05.50. That mark is an NCAA Provisional qualifying time and is the third-best 800m in school history. Graduate student Mary Heitkamp took third by clocking in at 2:07.67 which is also a Provisional qualifying time.
Junior Samantha Gawrych finished fifth in the event with a mark of 2:09.97 while sophomore Siobhan Breagy took eighth at 2:10.99.
Freshman Heather Garcia finished sixth in the 1000m with a time of 2:59.08 while junior Gretchen Andrus took eighth in the mile by finishing in 4:55.80.
Senior Mallory Champa ran a 9:44.19 in the 3000m which put her in ninth place in the event and junior Lauren Johnston finished fourth in the 5000m with a time of 17:11.44.
Freshman Emily Cornelius finished fourth in the pole vault by clearing 3.50m while junior Melissa Hadfield leaped 5.43m in the long jump which put her in fourth place. Freshman Kelsey Huckins finished ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.35m.
The Eagles will be back in action on February 22 when they take part in the New England Championships at the Gordon Indoor Track.
