Over the past three weeks, the Boston College softball team took time out of their schedule to give back to the local community, and that of Shreveport, Louisiana.
On Jan. 20, the team worked at the Greater Boston Food Bank in the Food for Families program. The Food for Families program utilizes donations of food obtained through the Food Bank, which are unloaded, sorted and packed by volunteers, and made available to families who would otherwise have difficulty obtaining such basic groceries.
The softball team partook in both the packing and delivering process in the Boston area.
With the team in Shreveport for the start of the 2009 season, the Eagles stopped by the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Shreveport on Feb. 5 to spend time with children enrolled in the program.
The Boys and Girls Club offers programs for young people, many from disadvantaged circumstances, to help them realize their full potential as productive responsible and caring citizens.
The team helped to tutor children from the Shreveport area as they completed their homework. Then the team played games of basketball, volleyball, football, air hockey, and foosball with the children.
On Feb 10, the Eagles visited The Franciscan Children's Hospital to make and deliver Valentine's Day cards to children in the hospital wards.
