Women's Basketball Cruises Past Monmouth, 75-49

Junior Carolyn Swords scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds and freshman Kerri Shields tallied 12 points to lead Boston College to a 75-49 win over non-conference foe Monmouth before 612 fans in Conte Forum.
Junior Stefanie Murphy added 10 points, three assists and two blocks, while Mickel Picco had nine points and two steals.
BC (5-3) used an early 18-8 run to take command. The lead grew to 26-12 on freshman Kerri Shields three-pointer. The Hawks cut the first half lead to nine points on two straight layups at the end of the half.
The Eagles extended the halftime lead, 45-28, with a 12-4 run behind five points from Swords and a three-pointer by Picco. At 9:50 in the half, a tradition three-point play by Swords extended the BC lead to 20 points, 53-32. The Hawks closed the gap to 16 points on a jumper by Adrianna Allen (10 points, 4 rebounds) at 7:05 in the game.
BC pushed the lead to 25 points after freshman Mary Nwachukwu hit three free throw, followed by Shields fourth three-pointer of the game with just under four minutes to play.
The host Eagles outrebounded the visitors, 32-25. The Eagles shot a season-high 50 percent from the three-point line and 56 percent from the floor. BC's defense held Monmouth to just 37.7 percent shooting from the floor.
Game Notes: Kerri Shields shot 4-for-7 from the three-point line for a career-high 12 points ... Ayla Brown notched a season-high seven assists ... BC's bench outscored the Hawks, 28-8 ... Junior Jaclyn Thoman went 2-for-2 from the three-point line. She is now 6-for-11 (54.4 percent) from the arc this season ... Stefanie Murphy shot 5-for-7 from the floor for a season-high 71.4 percent shooting average ... Mickel Picco hit three more three-pointers for a season total of 25 ...
