Stefanie Murphy Lifts Women's Basketball Past Iowa, 72-67

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Boston College women's basketball team earned a tough 72-67 victory over Iowa in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge at Carver-Hawkeye Area on Wednesday night. The Eagles have won four consecutive games and improve to 4-3 on the season, while Iowa is now 5-3.
The Eagles were led by Stefanie Murphy with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Brittanny Johnson and Mickel Picco each scored 12 points. Carolyn Swords had 11 points and Ayla Brown added six points and 10 rebounds.
BC led at the half, 35-29, behind nine points from both Jaclyn Thoman (five assists) and Carolyn Swords. The Eagles extended the lead to 13 points on a layup by Ayla Brown at 17:13. The game changed when Swords picked up her fifth foul and Iowa started hitting three-pointers. The Hawkeyes hit four three's to tie the game at 51-51 at 12:17.
Picco gave BC a five point lead on a three-pointer from the baseline. The Hawkeyes tied the game again at 58-58 on a jumper by Morgan Johnson with 8:51 to play. The Eagles built the lead again to six behind a steal by Brown and five consecutive points from Murphy in the paint.
Murphy hit another key layup to give BC a 70-63 lead with 4:12 to play. Iowa would miss three straight jumpers. BC sealed the win on two free throws by Mickel Picco.
Boston College won the battle of the boards, 45-30, including 17 offensive rebounds. The Eagles shot 45 percent from the floor and 50 percent in the second half.
Game Notes:
The Eagles have won four consecutive games (Holy Cross, Fresno State, SMU and Iowa) ... Carolyn Swords played a season-low nine minutes but managed to scored 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting. She also grabbed five rebounds ... Mickel Picco had five rebounds for the third time this season ... The Eagles had 22 bench points, including five points from freshman Kerri Shields ... Ayla Brown notched 10 rebounds for the second straight game.
